Whether you know it or not, you’re probably a big fan of Marc Davis. Well, maybe that’s a bit too presumptuous. But I’m certain you’re a fan of his work! Marc is the man behind several iconic Disney characters and innumerable Disney Park attractions. Walt Disney once said of Marc Davis, “Marc can do story, he can do character, he can animate, he can design shows for me. All I have to do is tell him what I want and it’s there! He’s my Renaissance man.” Marc had his hand in almost every department at Disney. He began as an animator in Walt’s first animated feature, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Later, Marc was the hand that drew up countless classic Disney characters, like Tinkerbell, Cinderella, Maleficent, and Cruella De Vil. As if his prolific work for Disney Animation wasn’t enough, Marc was transferred to WED Enterprises (now Walt Disney Imagineering) in 1962, where his fantastic ability to create memorable characters went on to influence attractions for the ’64 World’s Fair and Disneyland Park (most notably the Jungle Cruise, the Haunted Mansion, and Pirates of the Caribbean).
Marc has been painted here amongst some of his more notable character creations: Big Al plucks away at his guitar, and his eerie Haunted Mansion portraits stretch in front of our very eyes, revealing their grimly delightful demises.
This print is an excellent gift for the ultimate Disneylander, the avid Disney Historian, future Imagineer, or fan of Marc Davis and his incredible work for Disney!
